Prince of Persia, another video game movie?

Prince of PersiaPrince of Persia

As a fan of Prince of Persia this one interests me. Prince of Persia originates from a video game that has had many different titles that have been featured on the Playstation 2/3, Xbox and Xbox 360, and in earlier versions on the Gamecube. The movie will be based on the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time game and will hit theaters nationwide on May 28th, 2010. As we all know video game movies are being made in a mass amount now and many of them have failed to be a good movie. I guess we’ll find out if the director Mike Newel (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) can pull off a good video game adaptation to the big screen. The movie is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean, CSI), so hopefully the two can pull off something that will finally succeed.

The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina, and Toby Kebbell.

I look forward to seeing more information about this, and seeing it in theaters.

A Warcraft movie, what should we expect?

Warcraft

Well according to everything that I have read in the past few days a Warcraft movie is going to be made. Sam Raimi has agreed and signed on to direct the movie, as well as Legendary Pictures and Blizzard Entertainment are trying to get it off the ground and get a start on it. The movie could have some potential with the mystical story of the Alliance vs. Horde and the tension between the two, but it could also be like a lot of video game movies that have come out and not done so well.

I guess we’ll find out in the near future.

No More Heroes, another Wii game not for children

No More Heroes

Well it has been a while since I have played No More Heroes, but I do remember that it is a great game for the Wii that I spent many hours playing. As I said in an earlier post when it comes to Wii games you are mostly limited to games aimed at a younger audience. Of course many of those games like the Super Mario franchise are great games and are just amazing for all ages, but when you have a Wii you get enough of those games and want to play something more geared for adults, something with some gore, and some story and a bit of style. No More Heroes is about man becoming an assassin/hitman who wants to become the number one assassin and be known for it. You fight your way through many “bad guys” and a difficult boss like most games. What makes this game different is the variety of combo’s that you can do while you fight and the story involved. The game play is somewhat similar to GTA (Grand Theft Auto) in the fact that when you are not fighting you are driving around town in your awesome motorcycle doing work, and finishing missions. The overall style of this game is unique and holds its own to any single player game where you go and “beat” people. The game shouldn’t be played by your young one’s because of graphic content and language, but if you are an adult you will appreciate the style of this game.

If you have a Wii and are looking for a good one player game that you can sit down for hours playing, then this is the one.

Enjoy your rise to the top.

Up, animated, fun and full of life lessons

Up

Up is Pixars most recent movie to hit the theaters and once again it was amazing. The movie is based on an old man named Carl Fredricksen who is a balloon salesmen who finally gets to live his life long dream of a great adventure in the sky by attaching thousands of balloons to his house and starting an adventure to remember. As soon as Carl gets into the air he hears a knock at his door and comes across an unexpected and unwanted surprise, an 8-year old boy named Russell who is a very funny little boy who is a wilderness explorer. This is when the adventure really starts, with lots of humor and excitement to make a great movie.

Pixar has done it again and has created a masterpiece.

Up is a great movie that all ages get get something from.

Bruno, a bit too much, but still funny

Brüno

Well I have to say that Brüno was definitely what I was expecting from what I have heard about it thus far. The movie features the star from Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen) which was the same type of movie, which is a documentary style mocking certain stereotypes of America and the world. In Brüno Sacha plays a gay man from Austria who sets out in the world to become “World Famous” after he is fired from being a host on a fashion show in Austria. The whole movie is similar to Borat, but this time the movie went a little overboard with some of the stuff in my mind and although some of it was still funny it just didn’t make me laugh as much as Borat did. I will say that the movie did have many funny moments because of the humor in it and the shock of some of it.

Altogether a decent movie that will make you laugh with the humor working on many different levels.

Funny, and good for a laugh, but it won’t last in my memory for that long.

Ong-Bak 2, story and fighting!

Ong-Bak 2

Well I’m not even sure if many people have even heard there was a second Ong-Bak out with the Thai superstar Tony Jaa. As everyone who watched the first movie knows the story was well… Not so good, but the fight scenes more than made up for all of the movies flaws. Well Ong-Bak 2 covers both bases now and is a much better put together movie than the first one. The movie didn’t look like a low budget movie that was just randomly plotted like the first one, now don’t get me wrong the first movie is one of my all time favorite martial arts movie because of the different style it uses and the use of Muay Thai being used instead of your traditional martial arts movies. The second movie is the story of the young version of Ting (Tony Jaa) which takes place before the first Ong-Bak. The movie shows how Tony grows up with pirates because both of his parents are killed so he is saved by a leader of a group of pirates and learns the way of fighting and stealing. Tony grows up and has evil memories of the people who killed his parents and sets out to get his revenge. The plot in this movie is much much better than the original Ong-Bak and still has some great fight scenes, probably just as many as the first.

The movie impressed me from what I was expecting.

If you like the original you will surely like this.

The Hangover, funny from the beginning until the end

The Hangover

I wasn’t too sure what to expect when I saw The Hangover because of all the recent disappointment I have had with comedy films. The Hangover was finally a comedy worth talking about. The movie is about four guys who go to Vegas before one of them gets married because it will be his last chance to go out and have some fun, but as soon as they get there and go out for the night and wake up the next morning all of them have pounding headaches, the dentist is missing a tooth, one of the four is missing, and there is a baby crying in the closet. The story is about the three that are still together looking for their friend because he is the one getting married the next day and they have a very short time frame. They desperately try to retrace what happened the night before and who this random baby belongs to. The more the group of them figure out and see what happened they start to realize how much trouble they are in. I won’t say anymore because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but as you can tell the movie has a pretty funny plot. From the random scenes with Mike Tyson to the fact that there is a Tiger in the room, you will be laughing from beginning until end. The movie is mainly funny because of the cast being so different in personality and ways of handling certain situations. The randomness in this movie is used in a good way that is effective and funny. The fact that all of the actors weren’t really well-known actors who are usually in comedies made this movie even better to see something different. I will be watching this movie again when it’s on DVD for a good laugh.

If you haven’t gone out to see this and you want a good laugh go see it!

Red Cliff, hits all of the bases

Red Cliff

One of the best two part movies I’ve seen. Red Cliff is two parts because the story is long and interesting and they couldn’t fit all if it in one film. The movie is directed by John Woo and this is his comeback film, which was much worth waiting for. With a strong cast and well acted characters Red Cliff is simply amazing. The movie is about beating the odds. There is a small army vs. a very large army which is lead by a power hungry leader who will stop at nothing, except he will go even further for a woman who is married to the other side. The movie never stops impressing by the incredible acting, to the amazement of how the small army outwits and out thinks the large army in every aspect. I usually am not the biggest fan of old day war movies, but this movie is my favorite in its category for sure. The movie features many well-known actors and they seem to show their talents very well in this film. The movie shows great friendships being built, strong alliances, and trusting your allies. Red Cliff shows how being smart and patient will overcome those who are too certain of something and too power hungry and how sometimes working with others effectively can be better than trying to do something on your own even if you have more.

Watch these movies and you will surely be satisfied.

Transformers 2, action packed, but lacks the original story

Transformers 2

Don’t get me wrong Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen was pretty amazing and impressive in itself just from all the crazy special effects and the action that it brought. I think that the movie was definitely not as bad as the critics say, but it also wasn’t as good as the first and it was much too hyped so it was easy to disappoint. The first Transformers had a lot of plot and a lot of story that was interesting and it was a new idea that was fresh and really cool. I would say that what people think of the new transformers really depends on who you ask, movie critics will tell you that it wasn’t very good, whereas a guy who loves action will tell you it was awesome. It is all really a matter of opinion and I say that it was what I expected. The movie gets major props from me for being some of the most amazing special effects I have ever seen.

I would say watch this movie in theaters if you haven’t because movies like this with all the heavy special effects and action are worth it.

Optimus you are still awesome.

Infernal Affairs, best roller coaster ride

Infernal Affairs Image Source: (cinflix.com)

Infernal Affairs is movie based out of Hong Kong and was released in 2002. It is definitely one of the best movies I have seen come from Hong Kong. Watching this movie really makes you feel like you are on a roller coaster on the edge of your seat the whole time because you don’t know what’s going to happen next and who is really on who’s side. This movie is about an undercover cop acting as mole within a gang and gang member acting as mole in the police department. The fact that no one knows that they are moles makes the movie very interesting and has you wondering what’s going to happen next.

The movie was remade in 2006 in the movie called “The Departed”. If you have seen Infernal Affairs and watched “The Departed” after you will see why the original is always so much better. The actors in Infernal Affairs are very well-known actors and this movie only proves why they are. If you enjoy suspense and thriller this movie is by far my favorite in that category. The story of this movie is just amazing, from beginning to end you will be biting your nails trying to figure out which side will figure it out first and what will happen.

Overall I highly suggest seeing this movie. This movie hits all the bases and much more when it comes to plot twists and cliffhangers.
